Dear Sir,

The purpose of this letter is to address a rather serious problem that is growing in Bermuda, dangerous driving. You may not think that’s such a big problem, but it is.

If one reads the Royal Gazette, online edition (under motorbike or car accidents), one will get a sense of the problem. Some examples are: September 23 — a Warwick man was driving under the influence of alcohol; on September 17 — two cars collided after being struck by a truck; and on September 13 — a woman was struck as she crossed the road. And just this week, the collision of two cyclists resulted in one dying.

Furthermore, I have often observed when I’m out driving with my mother a motorcyclist (or in some cases a car) will come careening from behind a corner and speed right up the centre line!

Another frequent experience is when I’m crossing the crosswalks in town; I was once a few inches away from being hit by a motorcyclist speeding past.

I believe that Bermudian drivers should be more responsible and follow the laws of the road.

I also feel it is important for the police to show even more vigilance in enforcing the law.

By doing these things I hope we can prevent further accidents from happening.
