Four candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for the position of Deputy Leader of the Progressive Labour Party, The Royal Gazette understands.

It follows the announcement by Shadow Immigration and External Affairs Minister Walton Brown that he would bid for the position of Opposition head, against incumbent Marc Bean.

Mr Bean declined to comment yesterday, but an Opposition source confirmed four MPs had declared their intent to challenge current Deputy Leader Derrick Burgess, and will address a party meeting later this week.

The ultimate decisions will be made at the PLP’s annual Delegates Conference on October 23.
