Frustration continues for Wells

On the up: striker Smith

Nahki Wells was an unused substitute for the second successive game as Huddersfield Town were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 24-year-old club-record signing has started just two of the team’s past five games since Chris Powell, Huddersfield’s new manager, brought well-travelled front man Grant Holt to the club on loan from Wigan Athletic.

Wells notched a match-winning brace in the 2-1 win over Millwall to kick-start Huddersfield’s five-match unbeaten run but he has been left on the bench for three of the subsequent four matches.

Against Albion, the home side opened the scoring after ten minutes through Jacob Butterfield, only for Lewis Dunk to equalise six minutes before the break.

Huddersfield, who are seventeenth in the table, are away to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Reggie Lambe came off the bench late on for Mansfield Town in their goalless draw away to Tranmere Rovers in League Two.

Jonté Smith, the Kemi Kings striker, believes that his team’s strong work ethic was the key ingredient behind their successful promotion campaign.

The Kakkonen North champions clinched promotion to the second tier of Finnish football last weekend after an emphatic 3-0 victory away to VIFK in the second leg of their play-offs. Kings triumphed 4-0 on aggregate.

Sasa Jovovic netted a brace and Tommi Haanpaa scored late on for the visiting side.

“I feel that we were deserved winners,” Smith said. “The way that we played over the two legs showed how all of the extra hours we’ve put in have benefited us.

“This promotion is up there in my happiest moments in football. I couldn’t have asked for a better debut season and I’m looking forward to playing in the next division.”
