The story of a species of snail which went missing in Bermuda for 40 years, only to be rediscovered in a Hamilton alley, has made international news.

The BBC picked up on The Royal Gazette’s exclusive story today, posting an article on its News from Elsewhere blog.

The report notes that conservationists thought the land snail was extinct until a local resident found a colony of the creatures in a “damp and overgrown alleyway” in the capital.

As we reported on Saturday, Poecilozonites bermudensis hadn’t been seen on the Island for more than four decades and is thought to have protected itself from predators by choosing a concrete home.
