A couple of questions

6 November, 2014

Dear Sir,

If I was a constituent in Sandys South, and Jamahl Simmons was standing on my doorstep, I’d have a few questions.

1. Back in the day, why did he join the now defunct UBP? Can he explain his comment when he joined the UBP, that he found it “counterproductive to fight against the UBP, when he shared the same values”? What were those “values” that the UBP had but the PLP didn’t have?

2. During those years when Jamahl Simmons was in the UBP, he was frequently and publicly scathing in his criticisms of the PLP.

Why are those criticisms no longer relevant to him? What did the PLP say or do to change his mind? We all remember that when he was a rising star in the UBP, he suddenly resigned from the UBP and joined the PLP. Did he have some sort of second (or third) epiphany when he discovered that he didn’t share the UBP’s values after all, but, now shared those of the PLP instead?

3. Could he explain what it is about the PLP and its leadership of today that he believes would serve Bermuda’s future interests?

4. Where does he think the future of Bermuda’s economy lies?

5. What are his views regarding the PLP’s time in Government? After what happened in IB and local, Bermudian businesses across the board, does he now recognise that the past PLP Government’s policy on Term Limits was devastating to Bermuda’s economy?

6. Does he agree that the past PLP Government’s economic and spending policies directly contributed to Bermuda’s current, crippling debt?

7. Can he explain the PLP’s views regarding taxation, public expenditure and how he would pay down the current debt?

8. How would the PLP do better than the current OBA government in attracting business and investment to the Island?
