Two of Bermuda’s longest-running gyms are to merge, the owners revealed last night.

The Athletic Club (TAC) on Hamilton’s Washington Street has acquired the nearby Olympic Club on Dundonald Street.

Now the Olympic Club will share The Athletic Club name — and further renovations are planned for The Athletic Club.

The Athletic Club owner Kym Herron Scott said: “We’re taking our time conducting business as usual for both venues, while looking at the best each company has to offer.

“We are confident that as we focus on investing in the best services and products, the clients will see the greater value of the new TAC brand.”

The link-up will mean members of both gyms will have access to 65 fitness classes a week, while TAC’s spa facilities, which offer beauty and sports massage therapy services, will be open to all members.

Ms Herron Scott said: “TAC offers members personal attention and results at convenient and affordable facilities.

“This merger will be excellent for those taking their first steps on their wellness journey, avid fitness enthusiasts and hard core athletes as we combine our strengths in the marketplace giving our customers the best of both Bermudian businesses.”

Olympic Club owner Scott Stallard said: “The respect we have for each other along with our shared values and mutual trust played an important role in the transaction.”

TAC was founded in 1984, while the Olympic Club has been in the business for 24 years.

Ms Herron Scott added that TAC was also offering special deals on memberships, with a $125 a month fee for a year’s commitment or at $399 for three-month memberships.

TAC also offers personalised training sessions for small groups of four to six members for a total of $140 a session.

Ms Herron Scott added that there would be no job losses as a result of the merger.
