MPs should represent us all, not only ‘their people’

20 November, 2014

Dear Sir,

I was disappointed to hear Jamahl Simmons say out loud that he was there to look after “our people”. That statement in other countries would cause legal action as it implies that he is only looking out for black people.

I wonder if Georgia Marshall has said the same thing she would have been cheered like Mr Simmons was?

Bermuda is a multiracial country and unless your Member of Parliament is willing to look after everyone, I do not want them in Parliament.

I am disappointed that in this country race relations seem even more toxic. People should look at the other group and realise that it is impossible to survive unless you work together. Spouting hatred is not the flavour of the day.

Intelligent people need to be thinking of ways to come up with new industries instead of platitudes.

White and black people should learn to like each other. We have more in common than with any other people in the world, why can’t you see this?

Sincerely,

JK Williams
