A series of information sessions about new regulations for charities will be hosted by the Centre On Philanthropy.

The events aim to highlight the registration, reporting and compliance requirements of the rules, which are due to come into effect at the end of the month.

The sessions are being hosted with the Registry General and the Charities Commissioners.

“The Centre on Philanthropy welcomes the new Charities Act and regulations that will come into effect at the end of the month,” said Elaine Butterfield, executive director of the Centre.

“Through its membership, the Centre on Philanthropy has reviewed and contributed to the new Charities Act and the regulations. The new Act is a vital part of the charitable sector’s management and accountability, but this also means a higher standard of operations and ultimately better service provision to clients and the community.

“The daily operations of most charities are carried out by qualified, passionate professionals who are experts in their field.

“We believe that most of the larger established charities are able to meet the standards of the new Act and The Centre on Philanthropy is here to assist all charities in achieving this.”

Ms Butterfield said sessions held so far had been standing room only.

Two more are scheduled for the coming week, with more sessions in the new year to cover anti-money laundering rules regulations for charities serving vulnerable persons.
