Cannonier: apology for trash build-up

New Public Works Minister Craig Cannonier has announced plans to deal with continuing issues over uncollected trash.

Mr Cannonier, who assumed the ministerial post last week, said he had met today with members of the Waste Management Department to discuss the build-up of rubbish.

A number of Spanish Point residents queried last week why trash was accumulating, with Waste Management hurrying to address the issue in advance of Bermuda Marathon Weekend.

“We wish to apologise to all residents for the accumulation of trash throughout last week,” Mr Cannonier said.

“This weekend, staff from the Ministry of Public Works removed all the remaining trash and we are back on normal schedule.

“I received a number of e-mails this weekend from residents who were understandably frustrated. The ministry is very aware that trash build-up is a health and safety issue that must be mitigated quickly. This morning I met with the waste management team and I expect to have a firm plan in place to further alleviate ongoing issues.”
