Hope springs from generosity and kindness

In this file photograph, staff volunteers from Clarien Bank roll up their sleeves to help the Eliza DoLittle Society cook and give out meals to around 60 needy people through the organisation's breakfast programme. The meals were held at Hamilton's Anglican Cathedral. The programme serves more than 1,000 meals a week for the homeless or hungry

Dear Sir,

I read Karen Magnum’s letter with interest, and I would like very much to add my own thanks too. Bermudians and residents are extraordinarily generous; without their support the essential work of The Eliza DoLittle Society would grind to a halt; and many families in crises would be very hungry indeed.

The Eliza DoLittle Society provides food to hungry Bermudians all through the year not just at Christmas. We help supply food to church suppers ensuring that it is possible to get a hot meal everyday, somewhere on the island. In addition, we supply food through our own Food bank and by supplying other Food banks on the island, such as The Salvation Army and The Islamic Centre.

Through an arrangement with Meals on Wheels, we are able to supply meals directly to over 30 needy seniors, and we deliver boxes of groceries for those who prefer or are able to cook for themselves.

We are most grateful to those organisations who recognise how vital this is and step up to help us through out the year and at Christmas time too.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Advent Calendar Appeal at The Phoenix last year.

It was a huge success and created many happy, smiling little faces and we hope very much to repeat it this coming Christmas.

To quote one hungry recipient, “If you’re short of food or just don’t have enough to eat. It’s all you think about”.

With Bermuda’s generous donors and the kindness of our volunteers, The Eliza DoLittle Society is not only trying to feed Bermuda’s hungry population we are trying to impart a little hope too.

After all, Generosity + Kindness = Hope.
