Bermuda is being touted as a golf lover’s paradise in a magazine for “discerning golfers who like to live the high life”.

Great Golf, which describes itself as a luxury travel and lifestyle magazine, has featured the Island’s courses in a lengthy, praise-filled article.

Journalist Clive Agran writes: “Golfers who have never had a hole-in-one should take a trip to Bermuda.

“Hundreds who have gone in search of golf’s ultimate prize have fulfilled their dream at a beautiful course called Turtle Hill.

“Par threes are, of course, where elusive aces are scored. But if you’re thinking ‘pitch-and-putt’ or an undemanding ‘executive par three’, think again, because the holes at Turtle Hill wouldn’t look out of place at Augusta, Pebble Beach or Pinehurst.”

The Island’s golf courses are praised as “all so lovely you can’t actually go wrong” but special mention is given to Mid Ocean, Port Royal, Riddell’s Bay, Tucker’s Point and Fairmont Southampton.

Agran writes that opinion is evenly divided between Mid Ocean and Port Royal as to which is the best in Bermuda.

“Both have hosted the prestigious annual battle between the four major winners — the Grand Slam of Golf — and both are truly exceptional and deserve a mention whenever the most beautiful courses in the world are discussed.

“If you detect some hesitation and prevarication on my part, it’s only because I don’t want to offend either by preferring the other. If forced, I would have to say Mid Ocean edges it by the length of a tee peg.”

Great Golf’s showcase of the Island’s courses includes stunningly tempting photos and the article highlights that Bermuda’s climate renders it “absolutely ideal for golf”.

Also singled out for mention is our ubiquitous dark ‘n’ stormy.

“One before you tee off is said to improve your swing; a couple after the round and you’ll soon forget all the double bogeys,” Agran writes. Recommendations on where golfers should stay — Rosewood Tucker’s Point and Fairmont Southampton — are also given, along with the fact British Airways flies here daily in summer from London Gatwick and five times a week during the winter.

Bermuda is also featured in a piece in Travel Weekly, which gives a frank account of decades of tourism decline and the work of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

Writer Johanna Jainchill highlights their initiatives to persuade more tourists to visit year-round.

“The BTA is also heavily promoting Bermuda’s proximity to the East Coast of the US and that it’s a mere 90-minute flight from New York, Boston or Washington.”

Bermuda’s new branding, promoting the Island’s British, Caribbean and African roots is highlighted, along with the legalisation of gaming. The America’s Cup and new hotel projects are also points of focus.
