DUI suspect arrested after two-vehicle crash

A man involved in a two-vehicle collision yesterday morning was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

According to a Police spokesman, officers responded to reports of a crash in Hamilton Parish a few minutes after 6am that day.

“It appears that one of the vehicles was travelling east along North Shore Road when the driver collided with a Bermuda Stone wall embankment located near the eastbound lane and flipped over and landed a few metres away,” the spokesman said. “As a result, a car travelling in the opposite direction collided with that vehicle.”

No one was seriously injured in the crash and the driver of the offending car, a 44-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police also responded that morning to a report of a woman who failed to pay a cab driver.

Officers were told by the driver that at about 1am, he had picked up a fare from outside The Bermuda Bistro at the Beach on Front Street.

“The complainant took the female subject to a residence on Harbour Road,” the spokesman said. “When he arrived the female got out and sat on a wall and began to fidget with her phone. The complainant informed the subject that she owes $31.65, to which she said she paid.

“The subject was intoxicated and began to walk towards Harbour Road. The complainant attempted to follow her but she vanished somewhere along Harbour Road, Warwick.”

Officers conducted a search of Harbour Road, Burnt House Hill, Tamarind Vale and all surrounding areas, but were unable to find the suspect.

She was described as a white female with straight black hair in her late teens or early twenties. She was reportedly wearing black high heels, black stockings and a blue top.
