Chicas show signs of improvement

Action from the Women's Futsal League

League newcomers CP Chicas picked up their second win of the season during the Women’s Futsal League action at Warwick Academy Gymnasium last weekend.

Chicas beat Dandy Stars 7-6 in a 13-goal thriller.

Chicas led 5-3 at the half and then withstood Stars’ second half fightback to condemn their opponents to their first loss of the season.

The league’s leading scorer Cleshaunay Darrell-Virgil led Chicas’ charge with a hat-trick, Rayni Maybury added a brace while Noah Autmezguine and Shauntae Todd scored a goal each.

Zahra Gibbons and Donte Allen each scored a brace in reply for Stars while Nia Christopher and Zakiyah Durham added one apiece.

The upset of the round was Hamilton Parish’s win over Young Men’s Social Club 6-0.

Parish had a 2-0 lead at the break to establish early control before the floodgates opened in the second half.

Karen Dechebert led the way for Parish with a hat-trick with Anternette Burgess-Lewis and Keisha Hollis accounting for their team’s remaining goals.

In Saturday’s remaining contest, defending champions PHC thumped winless Somerset 10-1 in a high-scoring affair.

After a slow start PHC eventually found a way to break down Somerset’s defence, enjoying a commanding 5-1 lead at the interval.

PHC continued their dominance in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to keep their unbeaten record intact.

Aaliyah Nolan scored four goals for PHC with Jessica Furtado, Haley Bright, Micah pond, Raeesah Shakir, Leane Yates and Taznae Fubler adding one each.

Dazhya Greaves grabbed Somerset’s consolation.

PHC are top the standings by three points over second-placed Chicas who are level on points with third-placed Stars.

The Women’s Futsal League action continues on Saturday at Warwick Academy.

Action gets underway at 5pm with the match featuring Chicas and Young Men’s Social Club.

Parish will then do battle with Somerset at 6pm with PHC coming up against Dandy Stars at 7pm.
