MMA star Hominick to appear in Bermuda

Mark "The Machine" Hominick

World-class mixed martial artist Mark Hominick will be in Bermuda next month to take part in the Island’s inaugural MMA Retreat Weekend.

The event is hosted by the Bermuda Combat Club Ltd, a new company that is the Island’s self-professed only home for training effective styles for mixed martial arts.

Brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, wrestling, muay thai, boxing and self-defence are among the form that are practised at BCC.

Mr Hominick, nicknamed “The Machine” during his peak in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), will be accessible from April 3 to 5 at Crossfit BDA and will cater to those who are interested in doing something new involving fitness, health and wellness, as well as those who may already be athletes or fighters.

“Since I have retired from MMA, I have found my passion in teaching the sport to my students,” Mr Hominick said. “I am thrilled to be the first UFC-experienced athlete to bring the sport to beautiful Bermuda. I can hardly wait for the retreat, making new friends and passing on my knowledge of the sport.”

In addition on April 6, Mr Hominick will speak at CedarBridge Academy to school staff and leaders as well as at-risk youth regarding antisocial behaviour.

“As a Bermudian, I am proud to be able to bring new, exciting ideas to my country that not only suit my passion for martial arts, but fit well with what the Bermuda Tourism Authority highlighted in its Tourism Summit in January,” said Mark Prior, the director and chief executive officer of BCC. “We are bringing a new era of training to Bermuda that is inclusive to everyone of all fitness levels, athletic and combative ability.

“As pioneers in bringing the MMA industry to Bermuda, we value fostering and promoting local talent. We strongly believe that locals should not have to leave Bermuda to participate in their health, fitness and combative sport goals.”
