More than 1,000 people are expected to take to the roads this weekend to help raise funds for a local charity.

The Lindo’s to Lindo’s four-mile walk and ten-kilometre run will be held this Sunday, starting at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick at 8.30am.

Funds raised will go to the Bermuda Diabetes Association and the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club.

“It is a great way for the community to come together and support healthy behaviour,” said Alicia Wanklyn, Bermuda Diabetes Association programme and event co-ordinator. “There are rising incidences of diabetes on the Island and we are working towards developing effective programmes to prevent the disease, as well as improving the lives of those affected by the disease.”

Entrants are encouraged to upload pictures using the hashtag “Bermudahealthyselfie” to the Bermuda Diabetes Association’s Facebook page to help to spread the message of healthy behaviour.

The four-mile walk will follow Middle Road, South Road and Brighton Hill Road to Lindo’s Market in Devonshire.

The ten-kilometre route will go along Middle Road, South Road, Collectors Hill, Chaingate Hill, Watlington Road and Brighton Hill Road.

Prizes will be awarded for the different categories, with T-shirts and goody bags for the first 700 participants. Registration and number pickup will be at the National Sports Centre Pavilion on Saturday between 10am and 12.30pm. There is a registration fee of between $20 and $45 depending on which event people choose to take part in and their age.

Remember that this weekend marks the start of daylight savings time, so the clocks go forward at 2am on Sunday.

The event has been organised by Lindo’s, the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club and the Diabetes Association.
