Tightrope balancing act for Union head

Dear Editor,

The Speaker of The House, put a new twist to “Pick up your marbles and go home” by banishing Mr Burt from the House on Friday. Usually, you pick up your own marbles and banish yourself!

This could mean more ramblings from Ministers of the PLP, who surely by now have lost all credibility, by refusing to recognise WHY the present Government is in such fiscal difficulties and not putting a collective shoulder to the wheel to help Bermuda get back on an even keel with a brutal, tough budget that must be swallowed.

I do not include Mr Furbert, the head of the Union with the others, after all he has a mammoth three-fold tightrope balancing act to do.

Firstly, he has to “Gentle the Masses” and please his membership.

Then with an astute sense of reality, and I hope access to “The Financial Books”, must face the basic facts that you cannot give what you do not have and be able to convince his membership by asking them to visualise their own personal situation.

It has to come down to each and every one of us to understand how serious this truly is — and help.

Thirdly he has to recognise his own vulnerability to be truthful and honest to the adherents of the PLP and persuade them to discard harmful rhetoric and behaviour.

He could lose his job, or he could go down in history by being the Peacemaker that solved the impasse in order to turn things around for the survival of Bermuda and ALL it’s people, regardless of favour or party.
