BFA to hold women’s coaching course

The Bermuda Football Association is partnering with Fifa to offer a free women’s coaching course in Bermuda.

The course will take place from April 27 to May 1, from 6 to 9pm at Cedarbridge and the BFA field. The purpose of the course is to enhance coaching education for coaches involved in women’s football, and to help standardise the training given to coaches in the women’s game globally.

“This Fifa Women’s Coaching Course is an excellent way to refocus our efforts toward girls and women playing football,” said Shequita Parson, a BFA executive member and chairwoman of the women’s football committee.

“We are particular pleased that this is the first ever Fifa sponsored coaching course held in Bermuda designed specifically for women and girls.”

While the BFA aims to attract a majority of female participants, the course is also available for men who have an interest in coaching women’s football. Those who participate in the course will be able to put their new tools to immediate use at the Grassroots Festival on May 2. The festival will be aimed at girls between five and twelve and will involve coaching sessions and games.

“My aim is to get more women involved in the game as coaches, in particular, and to establish a thriving grass roots, youth, and women’s league programme for the 2015/16 seasons.” Parson said.

Those interested in participating can call the BFA at 295-2199, or e-mail bfa@bermudafa.com, to secure their place. Space is limited, and sign-up deadline is Friday, March 27.
