Alarmed by the lack of dignity in Bermuda

Lee Kuan Yew

Dear Sir,

With the death of Lee Kuan Yew, the world focused on the great success of this man from Singapore. He managed turn an island with no natural resources into a hugely successful and profitable place.

While Kuan Yew was draconian in many ways, he was able through discipline and hard work to change his country for the best.

I would not have liked to live under his rule but I am most alarmed by the lack of dignity that now exists in Bermuda. We have threats from members of the PLP and rabble rousing and singing in a place that is supposed to be dignified and doing the business of the people.

The Chinese are well known for their thrift, hard work and sacrifices but we are known as difficult to employ, expecting the highest salaries for the least work and seem to be led blindly by an outdated militant group of unions who, while championing the common man, have personally accumulated significant personal gain.

The young hot-heads who seem to be the flavour of the month come to us with no experience of running anything as significant as a real business.

They remind me of the left wing students who used to shout “revolution” when I was young. We have no need of this type of politician right now in Bermuda.

To see a member of the Corporation of Hamilton order the mayor off of “his” street in a most threatening manner was the final straw for me of this March Hare opposition.

We can only hope that Britain is watching and hope that what Dr Brown seems afraid of will happen, that they will suspend the constitution if this country becomes out of control.
