God bless our politicians

Dear Sir,

It seems most fitting at this most significant time on the Christian calendar to offer a prayer for those charged with the leadership of our country.

The glory and majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ and his crucifixion and triumphant resurrection is now the focal point of attention in the spiritual and religious life of our country.

Dear Lord we pray for all members of the legislature that form the House of Assembly. We pray for clarity of thought and good sense while conducting the affairs of those who elected them.

Help them to remember they are there to do the people’s business and not their own.

Remind them of the awesome charge they accepted when elected.

We pray that they do not continue to yield to the temptation of rancour and low brow speech.

Help them Lord to engage in fair and clean verbal combat when differences of opinion prevail.

Father, please help them to be humble and decent public servants not given to vile and mean spirited behaviour.

Lord help us as voters to decry and repudiate any immorality or graft we perceive irrespective of party affiliation.

Dear Father, this is a time of sobre reflection on man’s fall and his redemption because of the event on the cross of Calvary so long ago.

God bless our Government and Opposition to effectively serve for the good of all living in our lovely Island home.

May we be a better people as we celebrate the blessings of Easter, in Jesus’s name.

Finally, dear Father please bless our Parliament to do more to model the behaviour of civility and goodwill that sets a good example for proper conduct in a well ordered society.

We ask this in Jesus’s name, amen.
