Trio picked for Chelsea Caribbean camp

Three footballers selected to travel to the Caribbean are Enyche Zuill, Andrew Kempe and Omar Wilson, with Bermuda’s wildcard entry T’ai Williams

Three local footballers, Omar Wilson, Enyche Zuill and Andrew Kempe, have been selected to travel to the Caribbean to participate in the Digicel/Chelsea Kick Start Academy in October.

They were chosen from 30 of the Island’s top players participating at the Digicel Kick Start Clinic held at Goose Gosling Field last weekend, where the boys’ athletic and technical skills were challenged in a two-day session with Chelsea coaches David Monk and Max Fouracre.

The three selected not only demonstrated outstanding abilities, but also a passion for the sport and a positive attitude. Wilson, Zuill and Kempe will travel to the Caribbean in October to attend the Digicel/Chelsea Academy for training sessions and matches.

David Monk, the senior international development officer of Chelsea Foundation said: “Returning to Bermuda for the third time in as many years was a fantastic experience for both Chelsea and the young Bermudian players.

“We enjoyed working with some very talented individuals, three of which will go to the next stage of the programme. Among the final three players we believe there are some expressive and creative lads.”

Omar Wilson was named Bermuda’s fastest footballer and selected as the Island’s wild card entry. Wild card entrants are selected from participating Kick Start Clinics throughout the Caribbean and Central America, based on their speed and agility with and without a football.

Wilson will be included in a social media competition with 13 other players, to have the chance to be one of the two entrants with the most votes to attend the Digicel Kick Start Academy.

“We are delighted to support Bermuda’s youth in pursuing their athletic futures,” Alistair Beak, the CEO of Digicel Bermuda, said.

“We believe that this will be an invaluable experience for the young men selected.

“There was an extraordinary amount of talent and passion exhibited at this year’s Kick Start Clinic, and the young men selected will undoubtedly be excellent representatives for the Island’s football community.”

John Doran, the BAA president, said: “I would like to thank Digicel for giving the young men the opportunity to participate in a great programme and receive some quality coaching in the process. The three who have been picked will have memories of the week that will last a lifetime.

“It will be a great learning experience for them and it will open them up to different cultural backgrounds. We at BAA have been delighted to be part of this community giveback.”
