Plans for more CCTV cameras

A camera is proposed near the Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute

New utility poles intended to house wireless CCTV cameras have been proposed for three new locations around the Island.

According to a trio of planning applications by the CCS Group Ltd, the cameras would be installed near the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, the Deepdale area of Pembroke and a section of Middle Road in Sandys.

Last year the CCS Group, a subsidiary of the BAS Group of Companies, sought and received planning permission to erect more than 20 similar utility poles across the Island.

Security firm BAS-Serco has been tasked with installing about 150 cameras across the Island to provide almost double the coverage that existed under the previous CCTV system, which was provided by GET Security.

The new network would be linked wirelessly to a central control room and include both facial recognition and automatic number plate recognition.

Most of the cameras are to be fixed, although a few that are positioned near large, open spaces would be designed to be rotated by the operator.
