HSBC bank card woes extend into sixth month
Frustrated HSBC Bermuda customers are again taking to social media to say their bank cards are not working as advertised.
Non-functioning card services were an issue as far back as March when some used the Maj’s List Facebook page to complain about HSBC customer service, a parade of needed card replacements, card failures at ATMs and debit cards that were unreliable.
After a litany of complaints from debit card holders in the same forum this week, one wrote: “It would be nice for HSBC to notify its customers. It’s quite annoying going to a gas station, only to find out you can’t make a purchase with the card. Luckily, I had some emergency cash I keep in my wallet, because the gas had already been pumped into the tank.”
Another mused: “I thought I was going crazy yesterday when my debit card declined as I tried to pay for parking. Luckily, I had one from another bank.”
A top forum contributor offered: “You can only get cash from the ATM.”
But a swift response came: “A bunch of us couldn’t get cash out, either.”
Even in response to the March articles, one observer wrote: “There's only one machine on the island I can use without it messing up my card, and I was told by HSBC it would take years to get the rest sorted — unacceptable.”
Another of the near 30 respondents to the The Royal Gazette article wrote: “Customers will be happy to to know that monthly account and card service fees are still unaffected and they are deducted to the second of when the bank wants it to happen.”
HSBC said at the time there would be a solution for the bank card and ATM issues by June.
The Royal Gazette has reached out to HSBC Bermuda for comment.
