OBA falls short on PR

Dear Sir,

In a recent editorial you discussed the political situation with reference to PR.

I think it is clear that the PLP has done a far better job of public relations than the OBA; in fact their radio campaign has been incredibly effective since the mid nineties with little response from the UBP.

The OBA is not doing much better and, of course, they have an uphill battle. It is harder to tell the electorate that they have to tighten their belts than spend like a sailor.

I think the problem in a nutshell was illustrated by the lady whose daughter “interviewed” the Premier during the demonstration by the unions at the Cabinet building.

When asked why she was demonstrating about furlough days, her response was that she was doing it for the future security of her children and grandchildren.

Perhaps she does not know that we are in debt up to our eyeballs. Perhaps she does not know that it was the result mainly of poor (or corrupt) management by the PLP putting all labouring men and women, tax payers and pensioners in jeopardy for the near future.

The OBA has to to be more forceful. It is good to keep saying that they doing their best; they need to get their own team on the radio and on TV. They need to be loud, maybe just publish the reports of the misspent millions.

A nanny goat and chicken economy will not support even half the population.
