Controversial figure: Blatter will be praying to win the Fifa presidency elections in May

Football has a tendency to overhype every scenario — and most of the time us fans lap up the theatre.

But surely the comparison of Sepp Blatter to Jesus at the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) congress is the moment we all take a reality check.

Incredibly, Blatter, the president of a Fifa organisation beset by corruption scandals that has also backed a Qatar World Cup literally built on slavery, was also likened to Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King as ten Concacaf members gave their backing to the incumbent ahead of new elections next month.

I’m sure Mr Mandela and Mr King – architects, of course, of genuine social change in the face of unimaginable oppression — would have been honoured by the comparison.

Still, if Concacaf want the devil... I mean Blatter... to safeguard the future of our game then that’s their choice.

But if he is the Mandela of football, then I’m the Bruce Stocker (see standings) of Fantasy Football. And we all know that’s not true.

Anyway, rant over. Here are this weekend’s predictions — minus the FA Cup semi-finals, of course.

Tomorrow’s games

Kick-offs 11am

unless stated

Crystal Palace

v West Bromwich Albion

Palace are on fire after four wins in a row. I wonder how many Newcastle fans are looking enviously up at Alan Pardew’s side in the table.

West Brom have shipped goals recently and are without an away win in the league for ten matches.

Palace’s Glenn Murray, after serious injury, is one of the hungriest strikers around right now — and looks likely to strike again.

Prediction: 3-1

Everton v Burnley

Roberto Martínez’s Everton have stealthily been on an impressive four-match unbeaten run — which comes at a bad time for Burnley, who remain two points from safety.

However, after a run of tough games, this away trip will surely represent potential for points.

Prediction: 1-1

Leicester City

v Swansea City

The home side’s two recent wins suggest a side who are playing without the pressure of avoiding relegation — now everyone has written them off. Another victory and they might really start to dream of an astounding escape. First, though, they have to beat Swansea.

Prediction: 2-1

Stoke City v Southampton

Saints are still in with an outside chance of securing a Champions League place. Ronald Koeman’s side are only five points behind fourth-placed Manchester City and have lost only one of their past five league games.

Stoke don’t have any such carrot, which could prove the deciding factor.

Prediction: 1-2

Chelsea

v Manchester United

1.30pm

The big league game of the weekend and neutrals will hope United can register a rare win at Stamford Bridge to keep the title race alive. Chelsea have not lost there, though, in their past 16 matches.

United are in excellent form, however, and the home team have Loïc Remy and Diego Costa possibly out. A hard-fought draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday’s games

Manchester City v West Ham United

9.30am

City need a win just to prove to everyone that half their team can still be bothered. Sergio Agüero, for one, will have been stung by the team’s slide and I’m putting some cash on a big contribution from the Argentine.

Prediction: 3-0

Newcastle United

v Tottenham Hotspur

12pm

Spurs look spent after a good season based on a high-tempo pressing game. Luckily, they face Newcastle, a side who gave up the ghost for this season long ago.

Prediction: 1-2
