Time to wake up

Dear Sir,

On the Let’s Talk programme last week, it was disturbing to see the man who is supposed to turn our tourism around saying that there were a lot of things he did not know about tourism.

For the money he is being paid, I expected more positive statements from him.

There is no track record of this man having increased tourism anywhere, and he is supposed to turn our tourism around.

If someone could show the people of this Island some kind of past record, it may give us some hope that he is the person for the job.

Why is it we always have to import when we have people who are very qualified?

One caller, whom I know very well and who is very qualified to sell Bermuda, said that there were others with the same qualifications.

Who better to sell Bermuda than a Bermudian, because his heart is in his country and he wants to see it excel. A Bermudian is not just thinking of today, but the years to come for his grandchildren and future generations. The cost will be a great deal less and a plus for Bermuda, for we can truly say that Bermuda is another world and a haven for Bermudians.

The more there is talk about growth, there is regress for the many.

I know some of us find it difficult to be motivated to work, but there are some who really want work and Government should be serious about seeing that they get work. Encouraging welfare is not motivating people.

When hard-working people are trying to protect their homes and further their children’s education, Mr and Mrs Welfare are relaxing with their phones, TVs and other freebies — and let us not forget they still get their drug supply.

People of Bermuda, wake up — we are fast becoming second-class citizens.
