Hall offered new Telford deal

Gaining experience: Hall made 25 appearances for Telford this term

Freddy Hall has been offered a new one-year contract at relegated Telford United.

But the Bermuda goalkeeper said that he would be weighing up his options before committing to a season in the Vanarama Conference North.

Hall, who was named as a substitute for Telford’s last seven games of the season, made 25 appearances for the Shropshire club.

Telford finished third from bottom in 22nd position, ending the season with a 2-1 defeat at home to Wrexham.

Hall, a former Toronto FC and Northampton Town player, will take a vacation before returning to the Island to prepare for Bermuda’s World Cup qualifying second-round tie against Guatemala in June.

“I’ve been offered a new contract and I’ll see what happens,” Hall told The Royal Gazette.

“I’ll see if other opportunities arise, if not I’ll stay at Telford and see where it goes.

“I went there to get games and to give myself a better opportunity to be picked up, so I’ve definitely enjoyed it and have been playing well.”

Hall, 30, said that he still harbours hopes of returning the Football League. The former St George’s Colts player joined Telford from Oxford City, who play in the Conference North, where he made two appearances.

He started the season at Chester in the Conference Premier, making four appearances before parting ways with the club after a permanent deal collapsed.

“I have some contract offers on the table from clubs in the Conference and the Football League, so I’ll go on vacation and relax a little before I pick up with the national squad for the summer,” said Hall, who played in both of Bermuda’s games against Bahamas in the first round of qualifying without conceding a goal.

“If the right offer comes and we can negotiate something then, definitely, I want to get back in the Football League.

“I’ve got plenty of years left, a minimum of five years, I just have to keep in shape and stay sharp. I’m not worried at all, everything will be sorted out.”

Hall is optimistic that Bermuda can cause an upset against Guatemala, pointing to the number of local players such as Nahki Wells, the Huddersfield Town striker, new Chesterfield signing Rai Simons, Dale Eve, of Stoke City, and Mansfield Town’s Reggie Lambe.

Bermuda face Guatemala away on June 12 and at home on June 16.

“It’s going to be a test for us, but I think we’re more than capable, we’ve got some quality players in that team,” Hall said.

“With the [professional] players training every day and playing against better talent they are only going to improve, same with the guys abroad in school.

“Being in this environment only increases your skill level and improves your mindset.”
