Beacon to commemorate VE Day

The beacon will be visible from the Great Sound

A beacon will be lit on Spanish Point Park on Friday to mark the 70th anniversary of World War Two victory in Europe. This will be done along with parts of the British Overseas Territories, Crown Dependencies and in Britain itself.

The Bermuda Regiment will be lighting the beacon, along with representatives from the Sea Cadets and the Bermuda Regiment junior leaders programme.

“I am pleased that Bermuda will be included in this, having played a most important role in the war effort,” Governor George Fergusson said.

The event is expected to take place from 7pm to 8pm and the beacon should be visible from many places in the Great Sound.
