A loud bang and a billow of smoke reported in the area of Belco’s plant along Cemetery Road, Pembroke was caused by a gas turbine engine shutting down unexpectedly.
“The cause is under investigation and the engine will remain out of service for inspection,” a Belco spokeswoman said.
There was no loss of electrical supply, she added, with the plant’s generating capacity more than adequate. There were no other incidents caused.
