Gayneté Edwards grew tired of seeing celebrities in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

She figured, “Why can’t I get recognised for doing something good?”

The 28-year-old decided to launch her own company called GAME Changing Industries.

Its goal? To empower people to overcome their fears and start taking steps towards accomplishing their biggest dreams.

“One of the people who actually inspired me was Kim Kardashian,” Ms Edwards said. “I thought if this girl can get all this attention from her behind, I can get it with my brain. That was what motivated me to put everything out there and start changing lives.”

Ms Edwards, who is mother to eight-year-old daughter Ramaya, is now on a mission to motivate people around the globe.

She is set to release her first book The Lucky Code on Friday. The book offers tips to help people increase their luck and get more of what they want out of life.

“I’m an extremely lucky individual,” Ms Edwards said. “I win everything. At Christmas time I won a iPad mini, a $400 grocery voucher and $1,000 in cash — and this was all in the space of a week.

“People always ask how do I do it. Truth is I don’t believe it comes from charms or a special DNA, I believe it’s based on how you present yourself and your thoughts.

“If you start looking at yourself as lucky and choose those kinds of positive thoughts, your luck will increase. What I find happens with most people is they get a raffle ticket and the first thing they say is ‘I never win anything anyway’ and it’s that mindset that stops them from winning.

“You have to believe it yourself. I call it the victory mindset. I talk about how to achieve that in my book. We don’t come into the world with this mindset or with all the answers. It’s stuff you have to learn along the way.”

Ms Edwards said most people in her inner circle would describe her as a determined individual.

She’s a former Miss Teen Bermuda winner and model. She works full-time as a certified trust and estate practitioner and is the head of the PTA at her daughter’s school.

“It’s a lot of work, but at the end of the day my vision and goals are so much bigger,” she said.

So how does she manage it all? She tries to focus on one small task at a time, rather than getting overwhelmed by the big picture.

She doesn’t watch much television and tries to get up early so she can get a head start on her day.

“The way I see it is Oprah and Beyonce have the same 24 hours to get what they need to accomplished. There’s no way I am making any excuses to not be able to get there,” she said.

Through her website www.gaynete.com, Ms Edwards offers regular motivational challenges to help people inch towards their dreams.

The biggest reward so far is hearing feedback from people whose lives she’s touched.

“I get e-mails daily in my inbox from people saying ‘My life has changed and I’m feeling luckier as a result’.

“People from all of the world have already taken the ‘Seven days to a Luckier You’ challenge online. We’ve had a few people from India, Brazil, Australia, Bermuda, the US, Trinidad, Canada and some parts of Europe do it.

“They find out about it through social media platforms and that’s one great thing about the internet, it makes the world so much smaller. I can reach everyone.”

The project has pushed her outside her comfort zone.

She has to face new fears every day, but she challenges herself to do them anyway.

“Writing my first book was terrifying for me because it’s a piece of art and you’re putting it out there and everyone will have opinions about it,” she said. “Doing the YouTube video clips was also nervewrecking for me to do, but my greatest goal is to assist others so I see my fear and just do whatever scares me anyway.

“I constantly push the boundaries because I know something positive can’t come from a comfort zone. And when your goals are bigger than your fear then you are able to achieve it.”

She said she was excited about the new book. She dreamed of putting it out there for years and then last November figured it was “now or never”.

“The biggest motivation was my daughter because I want her to be able to look up and say ‘I can do something for myself and change the world if I want to’,” Ms Edwards said.

“I want to shake this world and sit on Oprah’s couch and tell her hello. I’m taking baby steps so I can help women and plan to offer life coaching sessions on the side, in addition to the other programmes I offer.”

Ms Edwards is currently taking an accredited life coaching programme through International Coaching Academy.

The Lucky Code is currently available for pre-sale on Amazon.com for $11.99. The book will also be available at Brown & Co, where she’ll be doing a book signing this Saturday between 2pm and 4pm.
