New Saturday market to open on Court Street

The ‘Uptown Market’ — located in the Jamaica Grill parking lot on Court Street — is set for its grand opening on May 23.

The market is opening ahead of vendor legislation which, if approved, will require all vendors and peddlers to sell their goods in a registered market.

The Uptown Market is the brainchild of Bermuda Economic Development Council’s economic development officer for North East Hamilton, Roxanne Christopher, and business owner Marcia Stowe.

A statement from small business advisory group the (BEDC) said there were ten vendors signed up to participate, but applications were still being accepted.

Ms Christopher said: “The Uptown Market is a wonderful opportunity for small business owners to sell their wares in a community environment. Markets showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of Bermudians in its truest form.”

There will be fun castles, music, entertainment and food.

The Uptown Market is the fourth market to be designated a registered market and will be open on Saturdays starting May 23 from 11am — 4pm.

The other registered markets are the Rubber Tree Market in Warwick, Hidden Treasures Market in Somerset and Olde Towne Market in St George, all of which are supported by the BEDC.

For more information about the Uptown Market or to register as a vendor, contact Roxanne Christopher at info@bedc.bm or call 292-5570.
