BFA looks to organise U-15 tournament

BFA president Mussenden hopes the boys under-15 championships will still be held

The Bermuda Football Association is looking to organise a boys under-15 tournament after the postponement of the Fifa Concacaf Championship which had been scheduled for August.

The new tournament would include eight teams in two groups with a round-robin format.

It is likely the competition would be held by another country in the Concacaf region.

The Championship, which was scheduled to be held in Cayman Islands and Jamaica, was postponed in the wake of the Fifa corruption scandal.

The postponement of the Championship was a disappointment for the Bermuda Under-15 side, who reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2013, and were the best-placed Caribbean Football Union team.

“The BFA are disappointed with the postponement especially since the boys and the coaches have trained so hard for the tournament,” Larry Mussenden, the BFA president, said.

“The previous tournaments at under-15 for the boys and the girls were excellent and assisted in the development of our players.”

The BFA has reached out to other Concacaf associations and there has been interest shown in the tournament.

“We are committed to establishing tournament opportunities for the under-15 boys and we will work to make participation and funding possible,” Mussenden added.
