Digicel yesterday announced it was axing up-front charges for phones on contracts.

The firm said it would offer discounts of up to 100 per cent on popular phones from leading makers for customers on postpaid smartphone plans.

A spokesman for the firm said: “The level of discount varies by phone and increases with higher value plans, with most phones available free on selected plans.”

The phone deal is available to new and existing Digicel customers, subject to eligibility.

Digicel Bermuda CEO Robin Seale said: “We are excited to lead the market in Bermuda once again, this time by offering completely free phones with no ongoing payments for the device.”
