Rescue operation stood down

The police boat was scrambled to Hamilton Harbour yesterday evening after a report that a kayak with three young girls had gone missing.

A distressed female caller contacted Bermuda Radio at just after 5pm saying she has lost sight of the kayak with three young girls on-board: two 13 year olds and one 6-year-old.

The woman said she had lost sight of the trio from her location on Harbour Road near the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club and she was “extremely concerned” that they may be tired and possibly disoriented.

A spokesman for Bermuda Radio said: “With the reporting party increasingly frantic and driving west along Harbour Road in an effort to locate the kayak a Marine Police vessel is tasked to attend the area.

“Bermuda Radio also undertook an all stations broadcast requesting any vessels in the vicinity to keep a sharp look out and report any sightings of the missing kayak with three children.

“The Police vessel attends that location, however a further update from the female reporting party is received stating that the children have been able to make their way back to shore safely. With no further assistance required, the Police vessel is stood down.”
