Talented bunch: Bermuda national junior team

Bermuda’s junior national squash team will travel to Barbados on Thursday to compete in the 2015 Junior Caribbean Championships.

Bermuda are sending a ten-member team to the tournament with Kion Knights and Dylan Muldoon competing in the boys under-19 event, and Susanna Armano and Tiye Williams in the girls under-19. Other team members are: Dylan Pratt (boys under-17), Madeleine Rose (girls under-17), Taylor Carrick (boys under-15), Charlotte Toogood (girls under-15), Charlie Riker (boys under-13) and Abigail Brewer (girls under-13).

The team event, from June 18 to 22, will start next Monday and the other participating countries are Barbados, Cayman Islands, OECS, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The individual event will take place from July 18th to 20th and notable players to watch out for are Brewer, who is seeded No 1 in her age group, while Toogood is seeded to reach the semi-finals in the under-15s. Knights is competing in his last Junior CASA and is seeded fifth in the boys under-19.

Runa Reta, the national team coach, is expecting some strong performances from the team.

“The team has been training very hard in the last two months in very hot court conditions,” Reta said.

“They are in good physical shape and ready to be a competitive force in this event. We are looking for some strong results in both individuals and teams, especially from our younger players who are proving to be quite a talented bunch.”
