Man denies possessing false passport

A man denied using and possessing fake passports in the name of Alfred Alva Thompson when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The man, whose identity is not known to the courts, was charged with having a false United Kingdom British Overseas Territory Citizen (BOTC) passport in his possession between December 22, 2013, and July 16, 2015.

He was alternatively charged with having custody or control of a false UK BOTC passport without lawful authority between the same dates.

The defendant was also accused of tendering a false declaration to obtain a Bermuda passport on August 2, 2010, and using an irregular Bermuda passport between August 7, 2010, and June 14, 2013.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and elected to be tried in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that the defendant is not Alfred Alva Thompson, because there is only one Mr Thompson with that name living in Bermuda and that he has never travelled abroad.

The defendant’s identity and nationality remain unknown.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded the defendant into custody and adjourned the matter to July 29 for mention.
