Why no economic warnings before?

Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Bob Richards (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

The Shadow Minister of Finance has taken the current minister to task for taking out a loan two years ago to guard against interest rates rising, and has pointed out that interest rates have instead fallen.

The Shadow Minister has indicated, in his patented self-righteous tone, that this represents a failure on the part of the Finance Minister.

Where was the current Shadow Minister during the term of the prior PLP government when it was operating as though there would never be a major downturn in the economy and loss of population in Bermuda which would create an enormous deficit which would hamstring any future government?

I do not recall any such predictions from the Shadow Minister. Did he make them to prior PLP government insiders and was ignored?

The attached editorial from the prestigious journal Science covers this modus operandi, which is, unfortunately, all too common in Bermuda.
