Shooting accused declines to take stand

A man accused of shooting four men outside Somerset Cricket Club has chosen not to take the stand.

Princeton Shantoine Burrows, 24, denies firing at the men with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, along with charges of possessing a firearm and five rounds of .40 calibre ammunition in connection to the attack.

Yesterday, Mr Burrows told jurors in his trial that he would not be giving evidence.

He said: “I wish not to take the stand and just rest my case.”

His lawyer, Marc Daniels, then told the Supreme Court that he would not be calling any defence witnesses.

The jury is expected to be sent out to consider their verdict this afternoon after final submissions from the prosecution and the defence and after Puisne Judge Charles- Etta Simmons has summed up the case.

The prosecution case against Mr Burrows ended on Monday.

Prosecutors say that Mr Burrows opened fire at a group of men sat outside the cricket club on November 11, 2014 injuring four men.
