Weather system lacks tropical storm strength

A low-pressure system that drew the attention of meteorologists last week has become better defined, but will not become a tropical storm.

According to the American-based National Hurricane Centre, the low pressure system, which brought the Island wet weather last week, is expected to merge with a frontal boundary off the coast of Nova Scotia.

While meteorologists had last week given the system a 40 to 60 per cent chance of forming a tropical cyclone, as of yesterday afternoon those odds had fallen to zero.

The system is expected to drift further away from the Island in the coming days.

Farther south, Hurricane Danny weakened in strength to a tropical storm over the weekend as it continued towards the Caribbean.

As of yesterday, the storm was expected to pass over Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and the Dominican Republic as it further weakens to a tropical depression.
