Charity Cup set to kick off new season

Dandy Town were last year's winners of the Charity Cup

The new football season will kick off on September 6 and 7 with the Charity Cup and opening round of the Dudley Eve Trophy.

Somerset, the league champions, will play FA Cup winners Dandy Town in the Charity Cup at Goose Gosling Field at 8pm on the Sunday, before four other of last season’s top six teams begin group play in the Dudley Eve Trophy on Labour Day at St John’s Field.

Robin Hood will meet Devonshire Cougars in the 3pm opener before Hamilton Parish play PHC Zebras at 5pm. Further dates for the group matches are Saturday, September 12 at Bernard Park (3pm and 5pm) and on Sunday, September 20 at Devonshire Recreation Club, also 3pm and 5pm.

The semi-finals will take place on November 1 at St David’s with the final on the traditional November 11 holiday, at Wellington Oval.

League action will begin on the weekend of September 26 and 27 with a full slate of Premier Division and First Division matches, starting with a night double-header at Goose Gosling Field involving BAA Wanderers and St David’s in the First Division and Robin Hood and Dandy Town in the Premier Division.

Somerset open the defence of their title away to promoted Boulevard Blazers at Police Field while the other promoted side, Devonshire Colts, who will also play their home games in Prospect, begin their campaign away to Hamilton Parish. PHC play North Village at PHC Field while Southampton Rangers are at home to Devonshire Cougars.

The Friendship Trophy and Second Division Shield competitions, along with the Player Development League Festive Tournament will be played over the Christmas holidays, starting with Friendship Trophy and Shield quarter-final matches on December 13.

Semi-finals are set for December 26 and 27 before the final takes place on New’s Year’s Day, followed by the PDL Festive Tournament final on Saturday, January 2.
