Prince Edness was shot at least four times from behind, the Supreme Court heard yesterday.

Jaquii Pearman Desilva, 20, and Joshua Usher, 22, have both denied charges of murdering Mr Edness and later opening fire on officers during a high-speed chase.

Prosecutors say the two men on the motorbike were Mr Desilva and Mr Usher and that the pair had just murdered Mr Edness when they led police on a high-speed chase.

As the trial continued yesterday, the jury was told that Mr Edness was pronounced dead by a Bermuda Government doctor at 10.55pm on December 7.

Two days later a post-mortem examination was conducted, which revealed five gunshot wounds: three in the back of Mr Edness’s chest, one in the back of his thigh and one in the back of his right forearm.

The examination also discovered two bullets — one in Mr Edness’s chest and another in his thigh — along with exit wounds on his chest and neck. He further suffered abrasions to his fingers, injuries consistent with those caused by collapsing.

Based on the injuries sustained, the court heard Mr Edness was struck by at least four bullets, and most likely five. Mr Edness was fatally shot outside a home on South Avenue, Southampton, at around 8pm on December 7, with witnesses telling the court that he had been targeted by two men on a motorcycle.

Police chased two suspects to near the Waterlot Inn, where officers had set up a roadblock, but the suspects shot at the pursuing car before veering down a private road.

At around 8.30pm Mr Desilva visited a home on Riviera Road, Southampton, where he stayed for three hours before being given a ride to his girlfriend’s house.

The trial continues.
