Relegation heartbreak for Hall

Going down: Hall has been relegated for the second time this year

Freddy Hall suffered a second relegation this year when Limerick lost a crucial second leg promotion-relegation play-off match 2-0 to Finn Harps yesterday.

Hall, who was relegated with Telford United in the Vanarama Conference North in England in April, was beaten three minutes before the end of extra time as Finn Harps won the tie 2-1 on aggregate to confirm their promotion to the League of Ireland Premier Division.

It was a devastating night for Limerick who avoided automatic relegation on the final day of the regular season, then scored a narrow 1-0 first leg win over Finn Harps at home.

Michael Funston levelled the tie on agreagate in the 38th minute, capitalising on a mistake in the defence to score. Hall had made a stunning save in the 21st minute to keep out a low shot.

However, Hall was beaten with penalties looming when BJ Banda grabbed his team’s second to seal a dramatic win.
