Solid start for Duffy

Waiting to start: Duffy and Jorgensen in Bahamas

Flora Duffy finished third in the first event of the Island House Triathlon in Bahamas yesterday.

The Bermuda triathlete completed the prologue event, a 300-metre swim, seven-kilometre bike and two-kilometre run in 24min 00.2sec.

Just nine seconds separates Duffy from Gwen Jorgensen in first and Lisa Norden who is second in the women’s division.

“Day one done!” Duffy wrote on Instagram yesterday. “Short and terribly painful less than a week after Xterra Worlds! Happy to finish 3rd behind @gwenjorgensen and @lisanorden1. Tomorrow is enduro format. Looking forward to it!”

The Olympic Enduro stage today involves three loops of a course comprised of a 500m swim, 13km bike and 3.3km run, all of which take place on the island of Highbourne Cay.

The final stage is tomorrow, with the ten men and ten women finishing with a sprint race as they compete for the $500,000 prize money that is up for grabs.

Javier Gomez leads the men’s event after completing yesterday’s first event in 21:34.9, with Richard Murray 25secs behind and Tim Don third in 22:06.4
