Vote for beauty queen via Miss World app

Miss Bermuda: Alyssa Rose

Miss Bermuda Alyssa Rose is calling out for Bermuda’s support as she heads to China to compete in the 65th annual Miss World Competition.

As well as tuning into the live pageant taking place on December 19 and following her via social media, the public can support the beauty by voting for her in the People’s Choice Award.

Organisers are encouraging everyone to download the Miss World app via www.missworld.com. Ms Rose said: “The foundation to success in any aspect of life is a support system. I am asking the people of Bermuda to be my support system as I embark on this journey as an ambassador for our Island.”

While Miss World began as a “Festival Bikini Contest” in 1951 it developed more of a purpose in 1972 when Julia Morley introduced Beauty With a Purpose — the charity at the heart of the competition that raises funds for disadvantaged children around the world. This aspect of the pageant encourages contestants to initiate and carry out humanitarian work in their home country.

The 23-year-old recently completed her Masters in marketing and brand management and is now undertaking the Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Diploma in marketing. She hopes to one day bring her skills back to the Island to benefit local children.

“One of my ongoing goals during and beyond my reign as Miss Bermuda is to utilise my background in marketing to help charities to promote and build awareness in order to help them grow and overall ensure sustainability,” she said. “Having led a volunteer dance programme at university, I aim to establish a similar programme in Bermuda to give children that are unable to afford to learn this beautiful art the opportunity to do so.”
