Rai Simons scored his third goal of the season in Chesterfield’s 3-2 away defeat to Port Vale in the Sky Bet League One at the weekend.

The Bermuda striker, who came on as a 74th-minute substitute, struck in the 90th minute to make it 3-2 with a shot that flew into the top left-hand corner.

Dean Saunders, the Chesterfield manager, said he would keep making changes until the side got the message defensively.

“We scored two,” he said. “But you can’t keep letting in the goals that we are.

“You go over these things in training, as we have done. If the players keep making the same mistakes they’ll get left out of the team, until we get the tight defence that we want.”

Nahki Wells could not help Huddersfield Town from slipping to a 3-0 defeat away to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Huddersfield are now hovering above the relegation zone, with only goals scored keeping them out of the bottom three after five league games without a win.

Also in action on Saturday was Reggie Lambe, who was substituted after 64 minutes in Mansfield Town’s 3-1 home win over Hartlepool in League Two.
