New champions to be crowned at club event

Kyme will miss the competition which starts next week

Two new champions will be crowned in the BCS IBM Bermuda Squash Racquets Association Club Championships which start next week.

Defending champions Nick Kyme and Kelly Barnes will both miss this year’s tournament, with Kyme, a former professional and 14-times winner, ruled out through injury while Barnes is living in London.

The men’s draw pits Tommy Sherratt, the 1999 and 2000 champion, as top seed while last year’s finalist and former winner, Laura Robinson, tops the ladies draw.

The tournament runs from Monday to Friday with men’s and ladies first-round action beginning on Monday.

Sherratt plays Matthew Ringer in his opening match at 6.30pm. Robinson has a first-round bye before playing the winner of Jenifer Bielby and Abi Brewer in the second round on Wednesday.

Richard Brewer returns to defend his men’s veteran title while Denise Kyme tops the ladies veterans draw.
