Still waiting on higher internet speeds

Dear Sir,

Last summer I wrote about the slow and lethargic introduction of higher internet speeds to the local public, so I figured “It’s now 2016. Let’s see where we are at.” The answer to that is simply nowhere.

We have exactly the same speed with no price drops in sight. The last speed upgrade to 15/25 MB came in 2012.

I know, higher speeds are coming down that pipeline soon. A check on the CableVision website shows the 50/100 MB as “TBA”. I applaud that change as the “Coming Soon” had long run its course and was more suited to be changed to something like “Coming Generations”.

Referring to that pipeline that the higher speeds are coming down, I watched the movie The Martian starring Matt Damon with much anticipation. For me, it was not seeing one survive being alone in space for so long that was intriguing; I was more interested in seeing if I could see any CableVision pipelines, as it seems Mars or maybe some other galaxy is where this pipeline is originating from. Then at least we, the public, could try to work out the time and distance of exactly how much longer our wait will be. I was very disappointed, to say the least, when no pipelines were seen heading off Mars in that movie.

If the telecommunications department and the Regulatory Authority think that no upgrades since 2012 is acceptable, then I don’t know what else to say. I guess the only alternative is for the general public to keep their telescopes pointed towards the stars and pray.
