Hoey on course to break challenge record

Woman in the middle: Hoey during the start of the 10K race

Rose-Anna Hoey remains on course for the Bermuda Triangle Full Challenge women’s record after this morning’s wet and windy 10K.

Hoey finished 34th overall in 42min 16sec and was pleased with her time in less than ideal conditions as the wind and rain picked up as the runners were completing the race.

Chasing Dawn Richardson’s record of 4:00:35, Hoey was 56 seconds slower than Richardson’s 41:20 time in the 10K in 2009, meaning she will be right on course for the record if she manages a time of 3hr 10min for tomorrow’s marathon, when the weather is forecast to be better.

“I had to pull back because I have to save my legs for tomorrow,” Hoey said. “I ran the first half with Tamika [Miranda] and the wind got the better of me in the second half, and I didn’t want to have to put too much effort in.”

Miranda, the local women’s mile winner the night before, finished 40th overall in 43 minutes flat, the first local female 10K competitor.
