Fines for not licensing dogs defy logic

Dear Sir,

I don’t understand the logic of fining dog owners who do not license their dogs a couple hundred dollars when it costs a responsible dog owner with a dog intact (not neutered) $100 per year.

Doesn’t the Government need money? If you own a dog that is illegal, or it is simply unlicensed, then you are an irresponsible dog owner. It is against the law. Why not fine the irresponsible dog owner $1,000 per year for each year of the age of the dog?

If the age cannot be determined, then a little bit of rough justice should be used. After all, don’t customs officers use their judgment on the value of items that arrive without invoices?

Another pet peeve. Why is it that the pedal cyclists are above the law when it comes to traffic lights? I used to cycle and never went through a red light, so I guess it’s a new law. I see more and more of this happening, so why can’t all of us on bikes just ignore the red lights. What makes the cyclists so special?

Just call me responsible.
