Abuse of public purse must be punished

Dear Sir,

On reading my Money page in The Royal Gazette over the weekend, concerning the headline “Why are we not more concerned about how Government spends our money”, I was taken aback by the lack of whistleblowers over a period of three years, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

1, $35 million, with no supplied documentation

2, $43 million, with no Cabinet approval.

3, $62 million for department expenditures, with no tender bid or compliance with instructions.

4, An outstanding payroll tax debt of $321,000 that was never deducted from payment? Still outstanding? Who got the benefit of that? Why was it not called?

5, Wrong payments made to individuals in the millions. Where are these individuals today?

This is just picked out at random from the report on the disgraceful management of “The People’s Purse” and I am told even worse: that these figures are only derived from a per cent sampling of the three years that this irresponsible behaviour took place.

We should be extremely angry, so let us hope, no, let us see that justice can overtake our passive indifference and that those responsible get brought to justice and punished.

An example of the classic: “We deserve what we get and allow.”

Surely we are better than that.
