Wells scores in defeat

Wells scored his eleventh goal of the season

Nahki Wells scored his eleventh goal of the season in Huddersfield Town’s 3-2 defeat at home to Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship at the weekend.

After a dour start, Cardiff led through Peter Whittingham’s neat finish, before Wells fired Huddersfield level with a low effort.

Lex Immers, on loan from Dutch side Feyernoord, restored the visiting side’s lead before Whittingham’s superb free kick made the points safe.

Harry Bunn, the Huddersfield winger, scored a consolation goal, which was assisted by Wells, in second-half stoppage time.

Huddersfield, who were without suspended defensive pair Mark Hudson and Tommy Smith, struggled to create openings and remain seventeenth in the table.

David Wagner, the Huddersfield head coach, admitted his team were not at their best for much of the match.

“The big moments of the game didn’t go our way and after they scored from their first chance of the game it was very difficult for us,” he said.

“We always tried to stay in the game but we made too many mistakes. Normally when you score two goals at home you should pick up points.

“I don’t have a problem with mistakes as long as we show the right reaction. We will all be disappointed this weekend and we need to take energy from this disappointment and move forward from it.”
